Anklet Size Guide — Find Your Anklet Size | Clarabelle

Finding the right anklet size is simpler than ring or bracelet sizing ankles are relatively consistent in circumference, and most anklets are adjustable. This guide covers how to measure, the complete size chart, and how sizing works when layering multiple anklets.

Most Clarabelle anklets have an extender chain, fitting ankle circumferences of approximately 20–26cm. Check the individual product page for specific sizing information on each piece.

How to Measure Your Ankle

Method 1 — Flexible tape measure

Wrap a flexible tape measure around your ankle just above the ankle bone — the point where you would naturally wear an anklet. Keep the tape parallel to the floor and note the measurement in centimetres. This is your ankle circumference.

Method 2 — Strip of paper

Cut a thin strip of paper approximately 1cm wide. Wrap it around your ankle above the ankle bone and mark where it overlaps. Lay flat and measure the length in centimetres. This is your ankle circumference.

Method 3 — Use an anklet you already own

Take an anklet that fits comfortably. Lay it flat at its shortest clasp position and measure its total length in centimetres. This is your preferred anklet length.

Tip: ankle size does not change with time of day the way wrist and finger size do. You can measure at any point morning or evening and the measurement will be consistent.

Sizing for Layered Anklets

Wearing two or more anklets on the same ankle — one of 2026's most directional jewellery approaches — requires slightly different sizing thinking than wearing a single piece.

Choose different lengths

When layering two anklets, choose pieces of slightly different lengths ideally 1–2cm apart. This ensures each anklet sits at a different point on the ankle, remaining individually visible rather than bundling together. One close fit alongside one standard or relaxed fit creates the most defined layered effect.

Standard fit is the safe choice for layering

When in doubt about which size to choose for layering, opt for standard fit on both pieces. Standard fit gives each anklet enough room to sit independently without competing for the same space on the ankle.

Avoid too-loose when layering

Very relaxed or oversized anklets tend to slide down toward the foot when layered, which can create tangling between pieces. A close or standard fit keeps each piece in its intended position on the ankle throughout the day.

Sizing Tips

Between sizes — choose the larger

If your ankle measurement falls between two sizes, choose the larger. An anklet with a little extra length sits more comfortably and has a more natural drape. Many Clarabelle anklets have extender chains of 3–5cm, giving you flexibility within and beyond the stated range.

For beach and active wear — close fit

If you plan to wear your anklet at the beach or during physical activity, choose a close fit. A relaxed or loose anklet moves significantly during activity and can catch on footwear or surface textures. A close fit sits securely and stays out of the way.

For layering — standard fit on both pieces

When layering two anklets, standard fit on each allows sufficient space for both pieces to sit independently. Avoid combining two close-fit anklets they will compete for the same space and may tangle.

Buying as a gift

When buying an anklet as a gift without knowing the recipient's ankle size, choose a piece with the longest extender chain available. The extender gives the most flexibility across different ankle sizes. All Clarabelle anklets fit ankle circumferences of approximately 20–26cm covering the vast majority of adult ankle sizes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the average anklet size for women?

The average adult female ankle circumference is approximately 20–23cm. The most common standard anklet length is 23–25cm, which provides a comfortable fit with natural movement for most ankle sizes. All Clarabelle anklets are adjustable within a range that covers this average comfortably.

How do I know if an anklet will fit without measuring?

All Clarabelle anklets are adjustable with extender chains, fitting ankle circumferences of approximately 20–26cm. If your ankle is within this range which covers the vast majority of adult ankle sizes any Clarabelle anklet will fit. If you have an unusually large or small ankle, measure first and check against the specific product's sizing information.

Can I wear an anklet if I have larger ankles?

Yes. All Clarabelle anklets adjust up to approximately 26cm ankle circumference. For ankles larger than 26cm, contact us before ordering and we will advise on the best option. Anklets are one of the most universally flattering jewellery pieces they draw attention to the ankle as a detail rather than emphasising size.

How should an anklet sit on the ankle?

An anklet should sit just above the ankle bone the prominent bone on the outer and inner ankle. At this position it moves naturally with the foot, sits visibly above most footwear, and does not interfere with movement. It should not sit so high that it is on the lower calf, nor so low that it rests on the foot.

Will an anklet fit over my foot?

Most anklets with extender chains or adjustable closures can be opened wide enough to pass over the foot without needing to fit over it. Use the lobster clasp to open the anklet fully, place it around the ankle above the bone, and fasten. If the chain is too short to reach around the ankle when fully extended, it is too small.

Do anklets come in different sizes or are they one size fits all?

Most contemporary anklets including all Clarabelle pieces come in one adjustable size rather than multiple fixed sizes. The extender chain allows a range of fits within one piece. This is the most practical approach for anklets, which are less size-sensitive than rings or close-fitting bracelets.

What anklet size should I choose for layering?

For layering two anklets, choose pieces of different lengths approximately 1–2cm apart so each sits at a different point on the ankle. Standard fit on both pieces is the most practical choice for layering. Avoid both pieces at the same length, which causes them to sit together and lose the layered visual effect.
