Finding your ring size before buying online removes the most common source of jewellery buying anxiety. This guide covers three ways to measure at home, the complete EU, US, and UK conversion chart, and the answers to every question about ring sizing.
All Clarabelle rings are adjustable fitting approximately sizes 5–8 US (49–57 EU) so if measuring feels like too much, simply choose an adjustable design and the ring does the work for you.
Three Ways to Find Your Ring Size
Method 1 — Measure a ring you already own
This is the most accurate method if you already have a ring that fits the finger you want to wear a new ring on.
Step 1: Place the ring flat on a piece of paper or a ruler.
Step 2: Measure the inner diameter the distance across the inside of the ring, from one inner edge to the opposite inner edge in millimetres.
Step 3: Find that diameter in the conversion table below to identify your size.
Method 2 — Measure your finger
Step 1: Cut a thin strip of paper approximately 1cm wide and 10cm long.
Step 2: Wrap it around the base of the finger you want to size the point where the ring will sit.
Step 3: Mark where the paper overlaps with a pen.
Step 4: Lay the paper flat and measure the length from the end to the mark in millimetres. This is your finger circumference.
Step 5: Find your circumference in the conversion table below.
Tip: measure in the evening when fingers are at their largest. Fingers swell slightly during the day and in warm weather. A ring sized on a cold morning may feel tight by evening.
Method 3 — Choose an adjustable ring
All Clarabelle rings are adjustable and fit approximately sizes 5–8 US (49–57 EU). The ring shapes gently to your finger no tools, no measuring, no guessing. If you are between sizes or simply prefer not to measure, this is the easiest solution.

Which Fingers — Different Sizes for Different Fingers
An important detail that most ring size guides omit: different fingers on the same hand are different sizes. Your index finger and ring finger are typically different sizes. Your dominant hand is usually slightly larger than your non-dominant hand.
TYPICAL SIZE DIFFERENCES BY FINGER
| Finger | Typical Size Relative to Ring Finger | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Index (pointer) | Same or 1 size larger | Often the largest finger on the hand |
| Middle finger | Same or ½ size larger than ring finger | Most neutral placement for rings |
| Ring finger | Your standard ring size | The reference point for most sizing |
| Pinky | 2–3 sizes smaller than ring finger | Measure separately — significant difference |
| Thumb | 3–4 sizes larger than ring finger | Always measure separately |
| Dominant hand | ½–1 size larger | Right-handed? Right hand is usually larger |
Ring Sizing Tips
When to measure
Measure in the evening fingers are at their largest later in the day. Avoid measuring first thing in the morning when fingers can be slightly swollen from sleep, or when hands are cold and fingers have contracted.
If you are between sizes
Always size up when between sizes. A ring that is slightly loose is more comfortable than one that is slightly tight. A loose ring can always be resized; a tight ring is uncomfortable and potentially difficult to remove.
Temperature and season
Fingers change size with temperature. In summer, fingers are larger as much as half a size. In winter, fingers contract. If you are buying a ring to wear year-round, measure in normal room temperature conditions.
Adjustable rings — the simplest solution
All Clarabelle rings are adjustable, fitting approximately sizes 5–8 US (49–57 EU). The ring shapes gently to your finger with no tools required. If you are uncertain about your size or buying a ring for someone else, an adjustable design removes all sizing anxiety. Shop all rings
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the most common ring size for women in Europe?
The most common ring sizes for women in Europe are EU 52–56 (US 6–7, UK L–N). The average inner diameter is approximately 16.5–17.8mm. However, ring sizes vary significantly between individuals always measure rather than assuming you are an average size.
How do I measure my ring size without a ruler?
Wrap a strip of paper around your finger, mark where it overlaps, and measure the length with any measuring object a phone, a credit card (standard 85.6mm long), or a book whose dimensions you know. Compare the circumference to the conversion table above to find your EU, US, or UK size.
My ring size is between two sizes — which should I choose?
Always choose the larger size when between sizes. A ring that is slightly too large can be worn with a ring size adjuster insert a small, inexpensive silicone insert that reduces the inner diameter. A ring that is too small is uncomfortable and can be difficult to remove. When in doubt, go up.
Can I resize a ring if it doesn't fit?
Solid gold and sterling silver rings can be resized by a jeweller. Stainless steel rings including all Clarabelle rings cannot be resized by traditional methods because the metal is too hard for a jeweller's standard tools. However, all Clarabelle rings are adjustable, so resizing is not necessary simply adjust the ring to your preferred fit.
How do I find the right size when buying a ring as a gift?
Buying a ring as a gift without knowing the recipient's size is one of the most common jewellery buying challenges. The simplest solution: choose an adjustable ring. All Clarabelle rings are adjustable, removing the sizing problem entirely. Alternatively, you can borrow one of their existing rings, measure the inner diameter, and use the conversion table above to find their size.
Do fingers change size over time?
Yes. Fingers change size with age, weight changes, pregnancy, and temperature. A ring that fit perfectly ten years ago may not fit the same way today. If you have not sized a particular finger recently, measure again before ordering rather than relying on a historical size.
Are Clarabelle rings adjustable?
Yes some of Clarabelle rings are adjustable and fit approximately sizes 5–8 US (49–57 EU). They shape gently to your finger without tools. This means no measuring is required choose the ring you want and it will fit.
